A GIS Day program will be held Wednesday, Nov. 19 at Alltel Arena, presented by Pulaski Area Geographic Information System.
A representative of the National Weather Service will be the keynote speaker and will share information about how GIS technology helped create accurate tracks of the damage left by the tornadoes that raked Arkansas on Feb. 5.
The National Weather Service created damage-track maps using GIS technology to help local, state and federal agencies identify areas that needed the most urgent attention.
The program will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in rooms 1A and 1B of the arena.
At the Alltel event, professional GIS users will display posters and mapping, make presentations, and lecture on a variety of applications.
Area high school teams will show how they created a map and 3D visualization of the Veterans Administration Cemetery in North Little Rock.
The mobile command center from the Little Rock Office of Emergency Management will be on hand and the Little Rock Fire Department will provide tours showcasing its Geocomm Mobilynx Mapping software.
Other sponsors of the event are Central Arkansas Water, Arkansas Game & Fish Commission, Arkansas Geographic Information Office, Applied Technologies, ICM, National Weather Service, University of Arkansas Monticello, the City of Little Rock, the City of North Little Rock, Little Rock Wastewater, North Little Rock Wastewater Utility, Pulaski County Road and Bridge Division, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Conway Corp., Navigation Electronics, Inc., U.S. Geological Survey, Environmental & Spatial Technology Lab Initiative and ESRI.
